八种技术是八门的劲或发力模式的八个姿势。八门是发劲的四个用法:掤(避开)、捋(击退)、挤(压)、按(推)和另外四个发劲模式采(拔)、挒(劈)、肘(用肘挤)、靠(身体撞击、碰撞)。
五种步法是前进(向前),后退(撤退),左顾(向左看),右盼(向右看)以及中定(中心平衡)。这5种步法也代表了五行。这八种技术加上五种步法成为了十三种姿势。
每一种传统风格的太极拳都有十三种姿势的训练法。这十三种姿势成为了太极拳的精髓。每一种太极拳都有其独特的 13 个姿势。为了让练习者更容易理解,基于传统太极应用技术,梁守玉大师创造了呈现在本视频中的13 个姿势。

1、Taiji 13 Postures are the foundation and root of Taiji Quan. The 13 Postures refer to Eight Techniques and Five Strategic Steppings.
Eight Techniques are 8 postures that are the jin or Force patterns of the Eight Doors. The Eight Doors are four formal directions of jin Patterns: Peng (ward off), Lu (roll back), Ji (press), and An(push) and another four corners of jin patterns Cai (pluck), Lie (split), Zhou (elbow), and Kao(body strike, bump).

2、The 5 steppings are Qian jin (advancing), Hou Tui (retreating), Zuo Gu (look to the left).You Pan (watch the right),and Zhong Ding (central eguilibrium).These 5 steppings also represent Five Elements. The eight techniques together with five steppings become 13 postures.

3、Every traditional style of Taiji Quan has 13 postures and these 13 postures have become the essence of Taiji Quan. Each style of Taiji Quan has its own unique training with the13 postures.
