知人者智，自知者明。勝人者有力，自勝者強。知足者富。強行者有志。不失其所者久。死而不亡者壽。

知人者智，自知者明；胜人者有力，自胜者强；知足者富，强行者有志；不失其所者久，死而不亡者寿。

He who knows other men is discerning; he who knows himself is intelligent. He who overcomes others is strong; he who overcomes himself is mighty. He who is satisfied with his lot is rich; he who goes on acting with energy has a (firm) will.

He who does not fail in the requirements of his position, continues long; he who dies and yet does not perish, has longevity.

Celui qui conna?t (1) les hommes est prudent.

Celui qui se conna?t lui-même est éclairé.

Celui qui dompte les hommes est puissant.

Celui qui se dompte lui-même est fort.

Celui qui sait se suffire (2) est assez riche.

Celui qui agit avec énergie (3) est doué d’une ferme volonté.

Celui qui ne s’écarte point de sa nature (4) subsiste longtemps.

Celui qui meurt et ne périt pas (5) jouit d’une (éternelle) longévité.
